Remembering..........

Today's blog is gonna be a little different.  Cause today would have been DaNelle's 34th birthday.
Here's a pic of DaNelle, myself, and both my sisters. (Obviously when we were in high school.)  We grew up with her, were college roommates, and the greatest of friends.  3 years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer.  A year later, she passed away.  While the special dates still make me sad, and I'll never understand why someone so great was taken so early in life, I now find myself thinking about the great memories made with her.

In no particular order, here are a few things I will never forget.

Swimming in the tank out at her grandma's house with the goldfish, then hanging out in the basement sneaking whiskey.  :)

Her infectious smile and laugh.

Her stories!!  She called me every morning around 10:00 and we'd talk till the guys came in for lunch at noon.  I miss those phone calls!

Playing foosball at the high school rodeo finals.

Going to the bar in college at noon and playing pool till closing time.

Her obsession with NFL football.  Particularly the Chiefs.  I inherited her pink Chiefs beanie when she passed away.  I will cherish it forever!

Her hamburger cheesy dip!!!  I can never get mine to taste the same!

How she was the best mom in the world!!!

And finally, how hard she fought till the very end to beat that disease.  And how gracious, kind, funny, and caring she was in life and in death.

Someday they will find a cure for this awful disease!

  1. I'll never forget how she climbed the one panel set up (instead of going around it like I did) and broke her bone when we "ran" from Bill at a party we were at with Mark and Tory that we weren't supposed to be at! She never lived that one down.

And the award goes toooo................

ME!!! I did it. I finally feel like maybe I could win that Mother Of The Year award.  You know, the one I have failed miserably at for 8 years so far.  I'm really feeling like the last 2 days have earned me that title.  I'm sure I'll do something to f%@& that up soon enough, but for now I'm celebrating my ass off.  I painted Knight's room like I promised him and I do have to say.  It's freakin awesome.  I really love it so much I contemplated painting the whole damn thing camo.  I mean really.  What else do I have to do with my days.  Right??  Wrong!!  It's pretty bad ass though.  If Knight doesn't like it then I'm going to sleep here.  :)  I love it.  I got the tank for the wall.  Thought it was going to be bigger but it works.  The helicopter for his ceiling should be here soon!  I had a ton of fun doing this project.  And if he doesn't like it, I'm selling him.  :) ...

It's MY Party!!!!

Actually, I'm too old for parties so now I have to settle for the following: Me telling my kids that it was my birthday this morning because Wade forgot.  And then reminding them that it's MY day and they should be extra good. Me making Kohl and my nephew tell me Happy Birthday every time they needed something today.  And singing too.  :) My mom calling me at lunch when Wade was in here which jarred his memory real quick like.  I will continue the day with making my kids wait on me all evening.  Ahhhhhh....I love MY DAY. I also treated myself to some new trail running shoes.  It's the right thing to do.

Whoooop Whooop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...........

Today marks a great day in 2011!!!  College football bowl games start!  I LOVE college football.  I LOVE the Huskers!!!!!!!  But I also love watching random teams that I know nothing about.  Doesn't matter where they are from or what their story is.  I just love watching football.  So, from now until the first week in January, I can pretty much watch football any given day!  It's awesome!!! Last year we went to every home Husker game.  Love it there.  The atmosphere is great, walking amongst the drunken tailgaters is hilarious, and the general excitement in the stadium is electrifying.  We've taken the kids to 2 games so far.  I'm not going to lie.  It's exhausting.  First, it's quite a walk to the stadium.  So, as you can imagine, eventually the 5 year old wants someone to carry him.  He's not a small kid.  In fact, he weighs as much as the 7 year old.  He's solid as a brick shit house and com...
