Finisher.......Although that was my goal for this whole day I never really thought it would mean as much as it does. I would love to say that my first half marathon was the greatest day ever and it was wonderful and all that other crap. But it wasn't. It was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. No joking. I was prepared for running 13.1 miles. I ate everything I was told to and drank more water than I thought possible the week before the race. I was prepared for the race atmosphere and not starting out too fast. The first 4-5 miles were the best I've ever felt on a long run. I was rocking it. And then I wasn't........ What I wasn't prepared for was the 89% humidity and high 60 degree weather that turned into 70 degree weather at just the wrong time. I was also a complete jackass and didn't remember that when one is in Lincoln they may want to consider taking an inhaler along for those "just in case" runs that may not go as planned. Oh I had an inhaler.....in the pickup.
Let's just say that I thought I was literally not going to finish. And I wouldn't have if it wasn't for my more than amazing sister Jamie. (and the guy at the half way mark that kept yelling "kick this last half's ASS") She could have had a great first half marathon with a great finishing time! And she chose to help me get through my leg cramps, asthma problems and pure shittiness. She rocks!!! She also was pretty worried that I may end up on a stretcher like the poor girl on mile 8 did and wouldn't be able to find me, or get into the pickup since my checked bag had the keys. :) I was feeling pretty guilty about holding her back and her not finishing with a completely awesome first half time. But I also know that if the roles were reversed I would have stayed with her too. That's just what sisters do.
Overall the weekend ROCKED~!!!! We shopped, talked, relaxed and had a great time with wonderful friends! And I WILL be doing it again, and I WILL kick the next one in the ASS!! That's a promise.
